Chapter 6: The Bush That Would Not Burn

Chapter 6: The Bush That Would Not Burn

Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro. He led the sheep to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. The bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. (Exodus 3:1-2)

MOSESI will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.Exodus 3:3

When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him out of the bush.

GODMoses, Moses!
MOSESHere I am.
GODDo not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.Exodus 3:4-6

Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. Then God told him why He had come.

GODI have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey.Exodus 3:7-8

Then came the command that would send an eighty-year-old shepherd back to the land he had fled from forty years ago.

GODCome, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.Exodus 3:10
